page two - A Man Shot for a Wild Turkey - THe following facts in reference to a sad shooting affair, are from the Bloomfield (Perry county) "Advocate and Press:" As George W. and Daniel Motter, of Buffalo township, were returning home from Newport on last Saturday, they seated themselves on a rock in a by-road at the foot of Berry's mountain, in Howe township, to rest and listen for wild turkeys. - While seated there, Mr. Benjamin Albright, of Buffalo township, who was out on the hunt for wild turkeys, saw the black hat on the head of young Motter, and from the movement supposed it was a wild turkey. He fired from a distance of about one hundred yards, and instead of a wild turkey the contents entered the abdomen (sic) of George W. Motter, causing his death on Saturday night about eight hours after the accident. Drs. Jas. [James] B. and Joseph Elby, of Newport, were called in and extracted the ball, but could not save the young man's life. He was twenty-one years of age. / Public Vendue ... at the late residence of the William Dale, deceased, in Lawrence township, on Saturday, Dec. 17th, 1870, the following described property, viz: Oats, Rye and other grain by the bushel, Hay by the ton, Wagon, Sled, Plow, Harrow, Cultivator, and other farming implements, one Cow, young Cattle, one set Harness, Rafting tools, Axes, Augers, Cross-cut saw, and Household and Kitchen furniture. Sale will commence at 2 o'clock, p.m., when terms will be made known. page three - Guilty - Lloyd Britton ... who stabbed and killed Jacob Bay,...at Williamsport, on the 16th of November, was tried last week and found guilty of murder in the first degree. / Burned to Death - A fire in Markville, Perry county, about three o'clock on Saturday morning, burned not only a dwellling, but four of its inmates - John P. Boyer, his wife, and two children, the latter aged twelve and fourteen years respectively. One of the occupants escaped by jumping out one of the upper windows, but he was so severely stunned that he was insensible for some time. Recovering his consciousness he endeavored to render assistance to the suffering inmates... / Accidental Death - A young man named Miller, from Leatherwood, Clarion county, employed by W. H. Newsom, in taking out timber in Eldred township, in the Hagerty neighborhood, on Wednesday last was struck by a falling tree and instantly killed...His body was taken to his home at Leatherwood. _"Brookeville Republican" / Married - On the 24th of November, 1870, by the Rev. S. Croft, Mr. C.C. Sproarle, of Clearfield Co., to Miss S.A. Oswalt, of Centre Co., Pa. - On December 4th, at the American Hotel, Luthersburg, by Frederick Hollopeter, Esq., Mr. Henry Carl to Miss Mary Ann Wensel, both of Jefferson county, Pa., / Died - In Lawrence township, on the 11th of Dec., 1870, John Moore, aged about 57 years. - Near Curwensville, on the 21st of November, 1870, Sabina Frances Bloom, aged 20 years and 2 days. - Bedford papers please publish
