page three - Proved Fatal - We regret to learn the death of a little son of Christian Smith's of of (sic) Brady township. He was kicked in the forehead by a colt, about five weeks ago, which after much suffering resulted in his death last Saturday, in the 13th year of his age. /Scalded to Death - The Hagerstown "Twice a Week" gives the following distressing account of the death of a little child in Washington county, Md: "One of the most distressing accidents that has come to our knowledge for some occurred last Friday. An infant child of Mr. James Osborne, who lives near the upper paper mill on the Antietam, had been place by its mother upon the floor, near a table upon which stood a pot of boiling coffee, whilst she went into an adjoining apartment, and the child catching hold of an end of the table cloth upset the vessel, the whole of the scalding liquid being emptied upon its head and body. The screams of the little sufferer soon brought its mother to its assistance, but it was too late, and although the skillful attentions of a physician were speedily obtained, it died in a few hours after it met with its misfortune." "Valley Spirit." / A locomotive on the Huntingdon and Broadtop Road, at Huntingdon, Pa., exploded recently, and Jerry Wertz, the engineer, was blown to pieces, and a boy named Daniel Hick, fatally injured. / Married - In Clearfield, on October 20, 1870, by Rev. W. H. Dill, Mr. J. K. Johnston, of Pittsburgh, to Miss Biantha J. Gulich, of Clearfield. - On Thursday evening, October 27, 1870, by Rev. W. H. Dill, Mr. Reuben H. Thompson to Miss Hannah J. Fox, both of Lawrence township. - On October 27, 1870, by Rev. W. M. Burchfield, Mr. James S. Read, to Miss Harrriet H. Henry, both of Ferguson township. - On October 25th, 1870, by Rev. Abel Thompson, Mr. John H. Hile, of Lumber City, to Miss Eliza W. Wise, of Ferguson township. / Sad Occurrence - William Hodgson and James Crumble, aged twelve years, were killed on Thursday, the 13th ultimo, at Webster, Westmoreland county, by a tree falling on them. It had been set on fire, and fell on the aforementioned boys, who were playing near it. Crumble was considerably burned before he could be extracted from under the tree. / Shooting of John C. Magill - Private letters received last week from a former resident of Johnstown, now residing at Pleasant Hill, Missouri, gave intelligence of a tragedy which occurred at Pleasant Hill, on Sunday, the 9th of October, which resulted in the death of John C. Magill, a former resident of this place. It appears that Mr. M had some difficulty with a negro on Saturday evening, in which he shot the negro in the leg. They met the next morning when the negro shot Magill in the thigh. The wound caused Mr. M.'s death on the following Tuesday. His remains were brought to New Derry, Westmoreland county, Pa., and buried on Sunday, the 16th. Mr. Magill was at one time engaged in business here ...afterwards employed in the management of iron works, in Mifflin county, where he married...He leaves a wife and two children. _ "Johnstown Democrat." / Murder in Kittaning. - A young man, named Joseph Stillwell, was shot and almost instantly killed in Kittaning on Friday evening, the 21st ult., by Augustus Dougherty. Stillwell, with others, was engaged in making bonfires to celebrate the result of the election and a foray had been made upon the boxes belonging to the merchants of the town. The mayor tried to stop the proceedings, but failed. Stillwell came to Dougherty's store for more boxes, and when Dougherty remonstrated against him taking them, Stillwell struck him. - Dougherty then drew a revolver and fired with fatal effect - Stillwell dying in a few minutes. Dougherty is in the custody of the Sheriff of Armstrong county...
