page two - A Democratic Patriarch - "On the 11th day of October last, Mr. Abraham Shull, Sr., of Whitely township, this county, rode to the election ground, a distance of nearly four miles and deposited his ballot...Mr. Shull is "now in the one hundredth year of his age,"... Mr. Shull we believe was born near Baltimore, Md., several years before the Declaration of American Independence, he has been a voter for nearly eighty years; cast his ballot for George Washington for President,...He has been living in his present home in Whitely township for about three quarters of a century,... Mr. Shull's mind is still clear and vigorous, as much so as most men at 70 or 75 years..." page three - Gone Too - Joseph Hoover, a venerable old citizen of this county, passed away at his home in Pennville, on Tuesday, 29th ultimo. He was a resident of the county for sixty-nine years, and leaves behind him a large circle of friends to mourn his loss. / "A Fatal Accident - On Sabbath afternoon of this week, a child of Mr. Nathaniel Martz, of Bull Run, Lower Mahoney township, this county, during the absence of his parents, went up stairs to sleep, but finding a box of matches, which had been left with reach, commenced playing with them, and set fire to his clothing and bedding. Mr. Rothermel, residing in the same house, heard violent screams from upstairs, ran over to Mr. Martz's, and up to the room where the accident had occurred. The little fellow had locked the door when he entered. After some difficulty he succeeded in opening the door, and found the child's clothes enveloped in flames, which he soon succeeded in extinguishing, but not without being burned severely himself. The child died about midnight, in great agony. - "Sunbury Guard." / Fatal Accident - A man named --- Wilson, engaged in lumbering for Mr. Rhoam in Keating township, was chopping down a tree on the 28th ultimo, when the falling tree struck a sapling and threw it aside with much violence, causing it to strike Wilson...a stunning blow in the right side of his skull, mashing it in and killing him instantly. He was brought to Lock Haven that night on the train and buried the following Saturday at Nunnsburg. He leaves a wife and three children (one of them a step child) in destitute circumstances. Her first husband was killed on a railroad. Wilson was about 35 years old, ... He was raised on Kettlecreek, about 20 miles above Westport, where his father now resided. "Clinton Democrat" / Marriked - On November 17th, 1870, at the M. E. Parsonage, near New Washington, by Rev. W.T.Wilson, Mr. John G. Odell, to Miss Mary C. Breth, both of Bell township. - On November 26th, 1870, by Rev. G.W. Newell, Mr. John Ross to Miss Maria J. McCracken, of Glen Hope - On December 1st, 1870, by G.W.Newell, Mr. Joseph Patterson to Miss Elizabeth Ann Rea, both of Ansonville. / Died - In Penn township, on Tuesday, November 29th, 1870, Joseph Hoover, aged 75 years, 8 months and 29 days. - On November 12th, John Hunter, Sr., a ruling elder in Fruit Hill Presbyterian Church, died in peace, aged 85 years. - In Clearfield, on December 6th, 1870, Kath Thorn, aged 15 years and 8 months.
